Hans Raj College is one of the largest constituent colleges of the University of Delhi. This co- educational Institute offers quality education in all the three streams- arts, science and commerce, and is located on the Mahatma Hans Raj College Road, Kamla Nagar, in the Delhi University’s North campus, and has been ranked amongst the Top-10 Science, Arts and Commerce Colleges of India

Rated among top ten Colleges of the country in Science, Commerce & Arts. Over the years, the College has built up an impressive infrastructure. It includes a well-stocked Central Library, Department libraries for Science subjects and a Book Bank for needy students. The College has six Computer Labs. and 18 Science laboratories.The College has an Ultra modern air-conditioned Auditorium fitted with latest sound and light systems with a seating capacity of 500 persons and an imposing stage. Another attraction is an air-conditioned Seminar Room with a seating capacity of 120 fitted with state of the art sound and projection systems. The College has a hostel accommodating about 200 undergraduate boys and is fitted with solar geysers and 24 hrs. power back up. Constructional work is in full swing of the addition of 2nd floor in the college building. Air-conditioned common science laboratories, lecture theaters fitted with LCD projectors may cater to the needs of increasing number of our students including OBC and PH students.

College Managing Committee on July 26, 1948 in the sacred memory of Mahatama Hans Raj, a pioneer in the field of education. More than 3700 students on its rolls interact here with a galaxy of scholars on its faculty. The College has completed 62 years in the realm of imparting higher education. Admission Eligibility

Eligibility Requirements

(i) Admission to B.A. / B.Sc.
Minimum percentage of marks required for admission to B.A./B.Sc. Programme is 40% of the aggregate at any of the examinations recognized by the University of Delhi.
(ii) Admission to B.A.(Hons.)/ B.Com.(Hon.)/B.Sc.(Hons.) Mathematics

Minimum percentage of marks required for admission to B.A.(Hons.), B.Com(Hons.) and B.Sc.(Hons) Mathematics is 45% in the aggregate at any of the examinations recognized by the university of Delhi. However, for admission to B.Sc.(Hons.) Mathematics, the candidate should have passed in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with 50% marks in Mathematics.
(iii) Admission to B.Sc.(Hons.)
Minimum percentage of marks required for admission to B.Sc.(Hons.) is 50% in the aggregate of Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology for admission to Botany/Zoology(Hons.) and Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics for admission to Physics/Chemistry/Electronics(Hons.) in any of the examinations recognized by the university of Delhi. The candidate should also have passed in all the subjects included in the aggregate.

Admission to M.Sc. Earth Science 1st Year will be done by the College.

The 5 year integrated M.Sc. Earth Science which was started in the Department of Geology in the academic session 2011-2012 will be conducted by the Department of Geology and Hans Raj College from the current session onwards. The subjects like, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics will be taught in Hans Raj college of Delhi University.
The duration of the couse is 10 semesters spread over five academic sessions. The students will be required to undergo training in the summer vacations during the five years of the proramme, either in the Department or at other National/internation Laboraties. The course has a possible exit option after threee years (six semesters) wherein a degree in B.Sc. Earth Science will be provided.

The number of seats for the course is : 30

Certificates Required

Candidates must provide the originals and self-attested / attested photocopies of the following documents.
1. Class 10th Board Exam Certificate.
2. Class 10th Mark-sheet.
3. Class 12th Mark-sheet.
4. Class 12th Provisional certificate / Original certificate.
5. Character Certificate (Recent).
6. OBC (non creamy layer) certificate in the name of the candidate.
7. Transfer certificate from School/College as well as Migration certificate from Board/University are required from those sutdents who had passed senior secondary exam from outside Delhi.
8. Two passport size photographs (Un-attested)

Examinations Recognised by the University of Delhi

(i) Senior School Certificate Examination (Class XII) of the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, or an examination recognized as equivalent thereto.
Pre-University Examination / Pre-Medical Examination (2 years after 10 years of schooling) of an Indian University recognized by the University of Delhi.
Intermediate Examination of an Indian University / Board or an Examination recognized as equivalent thereto.
(ii) Indian School Certificate Examination (12 years) of the Council of Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi.
(iii) General Certificate of Education Examination of U.K.
Pass in five subjects at ordinary level and at least two at the advanced level. These two advanced level courses may either be chosen from among the five ordinary level subjects or from outside this group as prescribed by the University of Delhi. If the GCE certificate mentions grades, these will be treated at par with the grades of the ISCE for the purpose of admission requirements.

(i) Applications from students who have not passed from the above mentioned examination bodies may be considered if accompanied by an Eligibility Certificate issued by the University of Delhi.
(ii) Students passing an eleven year school examination are not eligible for admission to undergraduate courses in the University of Delhi.
(iii) Students who have passed English and/or Hindi at their XII class examination will study English and/or Hindi, Course A in B.A.(Programme) and English/Hindi higher in B.A.(Concurrent Course).
(iv) Students who have passed English and/or Hindi at X class examination may study English/Hindi B in B.A.(Prog) and English/Hindi lower in B.A.(Concurrent Course.)
(v) Students who have studied English and/or Hindi only upto the VIII std. will opt for Hindi C. Since the College does not provide for English Course C, such students shall opt for another subject in lieu from the permissible options.

Direct Admission to the College

Admission to the first year of undergraduate courses (barring Anthropology) is directly handled by the College. Applications for these courses will be received by the College on the Preliminary Registration Form on all working days up to the date announced by the University. Applications for admission to Anthropology(Hons.) course must be submitted directly to the Science Faculty, University of Delhi.

Admission through University/Faculty/Department

Admission to M.A./M.Sc./M.Com. classes is made through the relevant University faculty. Students seeking admission should first register themselves with the relevant Faculty. The College receives applications only from students who have registered themselves with the Faculty. The same procedure is applicable for B.Sc.(Hons.) Anthropology.


SC/ST/OBC/Handicapped/Foreign Students

Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes are required to get their names registered with the SC/ST cell of the University. They should submit a certificate from the appropriate authority that they belong to a Scheduled Caste or Tribe.

Admission of candidates belonging to OBC category shall be done according to the guidelines, issued by the University.

Candidates claiming the benefit of being children of the officers and men of the Armed Forces killed or disabled in action are required to get their names registered with the University.

Physically handicapped candidates should apply to the Dean, Students Welfare, North Campus, Delhi University on a prescribed form obtainable from the Dean’s office on the dates specified by the University, for registration.

Admission of foreign students is handled by the foreign student’s Adviser, Foreign Students’ Registry, Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi. No foreign student is admitted by the College unless he/she produces a letter from the foreign Student’s Adviser, University of Delhi, regarding his/her eligibility.



Hans Raj College is a constituent college of University of Delhi and a premier imstitution of the DAV Managing Committee, the largest non-government educational organization of the country. After partition DAV Managing Committee decided to set up its institutions in India and the first to be set up was DAV College Ambala. On July 26, 1948 the college was set up in memory of Mahatma Hans Raj (1882-1938) the founder of DAV College Lahore and a pioneer in the field of education.

Searching/referencing of titles is now available through computers. Complete computerization of the Library is nearing completion.

Admitted students should contact the Librarian's office with their fee slip and a thumb - size photograph for issue of Identity and Library cards. Students are issued four Library cards (two for the General Section, one for Departmental library & one for the Text Book Section).

Computer Infrastructure

The College has four well-equipped and well-managed Conputer Laboratories.
Approximately 130 state-of-the-art machines from IBM, HCL & HP and LCD Projectors and an interactive board are available along with all necessary perpherals. The machines and programmes are continuously upgraded to ensure the market relevence of acquired skills. Internet facility is now available in:

Sports Facilities

The College has facilities for both outdoor and indoor games. Its student have won University, State and National level championships in pistol Shooting, Archery(W), Water Polo, Basketball, Badminton, Cricket etc. The performance of its team in Lawn Tennis, Swimming, Table-Tennis, etc. has been equally commendable. In Chess, Polo and other individual events too, the College has performed well.

The College won the Chancellor's Trophy in 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 for overall excellence in sports.
Sport facilities are made available to all students under the programme: Game For All. All students are expected to participate. Existing facilities are continuously upgrade and improved. Your suggestions for further improvement may be directed to Dr. Savita Kochhar, Convener, Sport Committee.


The College Canteen is spread over 375 mtrs. and accommodates approximately 150 users. Staff members and students share the Canteen. It aims to provide a variety of quality food & beverages at competitive rates. A multi-product retail outlet of Nestle is also functional adjacent to it.
